Control System for a Laser

Cognesis specified a control system to replace manual controls being utilised on a Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) system using Java, Angular and Docker. Cognesis was also involved in the preliminary GUI to be developed, as well as all related requirements including the functional specification and test plan development.

The client confirmed all of their requirements had been accurately identified and they were also very satisfied with the direction the software development was heading. At SRR the client advised Cognesis’s team had excelled in the tasking.

Satellite Project

Cognesis was asked to provide Software Engineering capability to aid in the development of the architecture for a Satellite Project for a Space Company.

This task included the design of the architecture, for the ongoing development of the software and testing procedures (Objective C and SWIFT) for a satellite to be launched by the client Space entity.

Machine Learning Solution to Classify Military Vehicles

Cognesis’s Software Development team has assisted in Machine Learning (ML) solutions to classify military vehicles (AWS SageMaker and a Dynamic Time Warping algorithm).

The first solution was a vision-based system that was developed using AWS SageMaker. Our team utilised the academic literature to optimise model selection, training data pre-processing and automate data labelling. The second solution used an induction loop sensor to generate a time series signature of each vehicle. A Dynamic Time Warping algorithm was implemented which allowed vehicles to be successfully classified with as little as one historical measurement.

Electronic Warfare Project

The Cognesis team joined the client on this Project to assist in the development and documentation of the preliminary design for the Computer Software Configuration Items (CSCIs) with the subsystem based on Subsystem Specifications (SSS) and Subsystem Design Descriptions (SSDD), (which included C++, RF equipment integration and embedded software).

Cognesis assisted with developing the CSCI presentation contract for the project Preliminary Design Review (PDR) based on the Software Requirement Specifications (SRS) and preliminary design. As of now, the project has successfully moved through PDR to the client’s satisfaction and the team have commenced writing code for testing.

Software Interface Simulator

Cognesis implemented a software-based interface simulator for a client in the Electronic Warfare (EW) sector, designed t

o facilitate the testing and verification of message definitions transmitted between two hardware units under development. This innovative solution featured customisable message definitions and a self-test loopback mode, going well beyond the client’s original requirements. Additionally, Cognesis provided detailed design documentation [SDD] and user manuals [SUM], providing the client with the ability to customise the software in the future. This solution will allow the customer to test and integrate systems interfaces before hardware systems are fully developed, derisking the systems integration program.

The client expressed high satisfaction with the software solution provided by Cognesis, noting the team’s commitment to going above and beyond the initial requirements. The project’s completion within the specified time frame and budgetary limits further solidified the client’s favourable view of Cognesis’s performance and professional acumen.
